Founded in 1922 as the Pittsburgh Waist Overall & Mercantile Company by Jacob Scott, this dry goods emporium originally catered to the work wear needs of local steel workers and coal miners. It was in 1924 that Jacob relocated his store to the South Side of Pittsburgh, which at that time was in the heart of the city's industrial steel district . Jacob's motto: "Never sacrifice quality for price."

Jacob's son Randall took over the family business in the late 1950's. Randall's gift of vision and awareness was the catalyst that took Pittsburgh Waist Overall & Mercantile Company from a local work wear store to one of the nation's leading retailers of women's and men's blue jeans. Witnessing the youth revolution of the 1960's Randall realized that the wares he specialized in had adopted a cultural significance beyond its basic function. So, in 1966, Randall formally changed the name of the business to Pittsburgh Jeans Company.

In the fall of 2012, Pittsburgh Jeans Company officially closed the doors on its flagship store. Not to be counted out, Randall embarked upon a new adventure in denim---a renovated vintage gas station labelled PLUS by Pittsburgh Jeans Company---a new concept in online shopping that offers premium denim exclusively to the curvy girls of the world!
